Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme: Encouraging Higher Technical Education
The Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS), established under the National Defence Fund, was launched in the academic year 2006-07. The primary objective of this scheme is to encourage and support higher technical education among the children of ex-servicemen and widows of military personnel.
Through the PMSS, eligible students can avail financial assistance to pursue professional degree courses such as engineering, medicine, dental, veterinary, MBA, MCA, and other equivalent courses. This scheme provides an opportunity for deserving candidates to fulfill their educational aspirations and contribute to the nation’s progress.
The PMSS offers scholarships to a maximum of 5,500 students every year. The scholarships are divided into two categories:
Scholarships for boys: A total of 4,000 scholarships are available for boys, with a fixed amount of INR 2,250 per month for a maximum of four years.
Scholarships for girls: A total of 1,500 scholarships are reserved for girls, with a fixed amount of INR 2,250 per month for a maximum of four years.
Eligibility criteria for the PMSS include being a dependent ward of ex-servicemen or widows of military personnel, securing a minimum of 60% marks in the qualifying examination, and pursuing a professional degree course from a recognized institution. The selection process is based on merit, and candidates are shortlisted through a centralized online application system.
It is important to note that the PMSS is a prestigious scholarship scheme that not only provides financial support but also recognizes the sacrifices made by the armed forces. By encouraging higher technical education, the scheme aims to empower the youth and enable them to contribute to the nation’s development.
In conclusion, the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme plays a vital role in promoting higher technical education among the children of ex-servicemen and widows of military personnel. This initiative not only provides financial assistance but also serves as a symbol of gratitude towards the armed forces. Through the PMSS, deserving students can pursue their dreams and contribute to the nation’s progress.
