The Asian Americans in Public Finance (AAPF) is proud to sponsor the Matt Fong Asian Americans in Public Finance Scholarship for college students in an accredited four-year college or university in California interested in a career serving the public sector. Since inception in 2013, we have awarded 1-2 scholarships a year to students who have demonstrated strong academic achievement, are highly motivated to lead, and are dedicated to their communities or causes.
As a professional organization, Asian Americans in Public Finance strives to enhance, develop and promote the professional lives and careers of dedicated Asian Americans in public finance, as well as those interested in pursuing a career in public finance or the public sector. Public Finance is the study of government’s impact on the economy, and a profession in public finance involves the funding and financial management of public goods, services, and facilities provided directly by state and local governments, through its agencies or community not-for-profit organizations. A profession in this field requires a commitment to public service.
The Matt Fong Asian Americans in Public Finance Scholarship honors the memory of former California State Treasurer Matt Fong, for his dedication to public service, active involvement in state politics, and direct impact he had in opening up opportunities for Asian Americans in the public finance industry. Matt Fong’s life embodied the mission of the Asian Americans in Public Finance organization.
By sponsoring and awarding these scholarships, Asian Americans in Public Finance hopes to foster the future careers of individuals with the drive, focus and ambition to make contributions for the betterment of their communities and society at large. Additionally, AAPF hopes to serve as a resources for students and individuals to learn more about the various careers and opportunities which comprise public finance and equip them with the tools to have a greater voice and impact in public service.

Two $5,000 Scholarships Available for Full-Time Undergraduate Students at a Four Year College/University (in California) in 2023-2024.
The Matt Fong Asian Americans in Public Finance Scholarships is for college students in California interested in a career serving the public sector.
ELIGIBILITY:
Grade level: Full-time undergraduate at a four year college/university (in the state of California) in 2023-24
Ethnic heritage: Asian heritage (at least 50%)
A minimum GPA of 3.0
Major: Social Science, Accounting, Business Administration, or related fields
Preference given to those with interest in public sector work or those with community service and community advocacy
