The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, has introduced the PM YASASVI Central Sector Scheme of Top Class Education in Schools for OBC, EBC, and DNT students. The scheme aims to provide premium education to meritorious students belonging to these categories from Class 9 to Class 12. The last date to apply for this scheme is December 31, 2023.
To be eligible for the scheme, OBC, EBC, and DNT students studying in the identified Top Class Schools with a household annual income of less than Rs. 2.5 lakhs can apply. The allocation of slots for each state will be based on the OBC population data. The scholarship will be sanctioned based on merit and can be applied for through the online portal.
The scheme will be implemented as follows:
a) A selection committee, chaired by the Joint Secretary (BC) and with representation from the Department of School Education and the NITI Ayog, will select the top-performing schools that consistently secure 100% passes in Classes 10th and 12th. These schools will be known as “Top Class Schools (TCSs)” for the purpose of this scheme.
b) The TCSs can be public (Central/State/Local Body) or aided schools, or private schools.
c) The number of slots available for each state and class will be announced in April every year.
d) At least 30% of these scholarships are reserved for girls.
e) Existing OBC/EBC/DNT students studying in the TCSs can apply for the scholarship through the National Scholarship Portal along with their marks from the final exam of the previous class.
f) The applications will be verified online by the Nodal Officers of the School and confirmed by the State Government online.
g) A state-wise merit list for each class, separately prepared for boys and girls based on marks obtained in the previous class’s final exam, will determine the allocation of scholarships.
