Deadlines 31 March 2024. The National Overseas Scholarship (NOS) Scheme aims to provide opportunities for low-income students from marginalized communities to pursue higher education abroad. Specifically, the scheme targets students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Denotified Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, Landless Agricultural Labourers, and Traditional Artisans.
During the selection year 2023-24, there are 125 fresh awards available, subject to the availability of funds. Out of these, 115 awards are reserved for Scheduled Castes candidates, 6 awards for Denotified, Nomadic, and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, and 4 awards for Landless Agricultural Labourers and Traditional Artisans. The scheme offers financial assistance to selected candidates for pursuing Masters and Ph.D. courses in any field of study at accredited institutions/universities abroad.
To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must have secured at least 60% marks or equivalent grade in their qualifying examination. For Ph.D. courses, the qualifying exam is a Masters Degree, while for Masters Degree courses, it is a Bachelors’ Degree. Additionally, candidates should not be older than 35 years as of April 1st of the selection year. The total family income from all sources should not exceed Rs. 8.00 lakh per annum in the preceding financial year.
The scheme also emphasizes gender equality by earmarking 30% of the awards for women candidates each year. Candidates with unconditional offers of admission to the top 500 ranked foreign institutes/universities, as per the latest available QS rankings, will be given priority during the first round of selection.
To apply for the scholarship, eligible candidates can submit their applications online through the Ministry’s portal at https://nosmsje.gov.in. The last date to apply for the scholarship is March 31, 2024.
