Overview of the Government of India’s Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme

Introduction to the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme

The Government of India has developed the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme under the Department of Social Justice and Special Assistance. This initiative aims to provide essential financial assistance for education to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Neo-Buddhist students residing in Maharashtra. The scheme seeks to create opportunities that encourage students to pursue higher education, ultimately reducing dropouts and educational leakage.

Benefits of the Scholarship

Under this scholarship scheme, various financial benefits are offered, including tuition fees, exam fees, and a maintenance allowance. The maintenance allowance is disbursed monthly based on the student’s group classification—from Group I to Group IV—covering a max duration of 10 months from the date of admission to the date of the examination. Importantly, this financial support is exclusively available to students whose families earn less than or equal to ₹2,50,000 annually.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the benefits under the scheme, students must meet specific criteria. They must belong to the Scheduled Caste or Neo-Buddhist category, be residents of Maharashtra, and have passed their SSC or an equivalent matriculation examination. Additionally, should a student fail initially, they still have the right to apply for the exam fees. By aligning with these guidelines, the scheme enhances transparency and coordination, ensuring timely financial support to eligible students.
